Cull cull cull
Nov. 27th, 2005 12:47 amI spend far too much time trying to catch up to the internet. I determined this last year, when I spent most of the day in front of the laptop browsing forums I lurked or participated in, reading RSS feeds or email, or checking the latest livejournal entries. That was when I was able to spend 18 hours out of 24 on the laptop, and my "commitments" have only gotten worse since then. I have more RSS feeds than ever, I've joined more communities, and guess what? I have less time. That means that I spend a minimum of 2.5 hours every day after I get home from school simply finding out what new distractions the internet has for me. This is no longer acceptable, I have come to grips with this fact. Now, reforms begin. I'm not culling my list of 95 friends here, instead I'm adding filters. If I want to spend a couple minutes checking posts of the people I'm most interested in on a day to day basis, I can. Instead of 2-3 pages of new posts every day, I can see less than half a page now! And this is only the beginning. Unfortunately, it probably means cutting back on my RSS feeds.
Fast forward several hours
I am reduced to 52 RSS feeds. This is far more manageable, as I the majority of the posts every day come from 5 of the feeds, or something. I can skip over those easily enough usually, and therefore the list of unread posts won't be so daunting anymore. Now if only I could find a way to browse Tranceaddicts and Typhoon quickly and efficiently :< They're extremely high volume forums (not as bad as SomethingAwful, which I stopped visiting months ago for this reason (except when I need tech support)). Forums are bad, because if you miss a day, it gets worse and worse and then it just takes longer another time. I'm stumped on this one. Hopefully the friends list and RSS feed cutbacks will do something, though =\
In other news, I was at a sleepover and slept from 6am to 12pm. I also ate a million bowls of fruit loops and took part in the coolest escape ever conceived in a D&D game. It did not happen in that order, however.
This was probably a pretty boring entry. I'll make up for it next time, I promise.
